Should I Buy a .COM, .NET, Or .INFO?

I’m thinking of producing some information products (web, ebook, affiliate), and the question is: am I better off getting a .com or another extension (i.e. .info, .edu)? I’m not sure how the search engines treat extensions, or do they focus on the content?

I’ve blogged about buying a domain in the past, please read that post first.

1) Domain Trust - Hundreds of millions of dollars have gone into branding .COM via television, radio ads, internet ads, etc. People know and trust .COM. However, with many other newer domain extensions (such as .Biz, .Info, .CC), there’s less trust.

2) Click Through Rate - If you’re doing PPC marketing, .COM’s will almost always beat out every other domain extension, with the exception of .ORG

3) Brandability - .COM’s are much easier to brand and remember than extensions such as .INFO or .BIZ. If you have a .NET domain, and promote your website off-line through radio-ads, most people will remember the first part of your domain, and then add .COM.

My vote is for .COM or .ORG.
