Review: The 4-Hour Hour Work Week

I recently finished the book “The 4-Hour Work Week” by Timothy Ferriss. The book made the best seller list almost instantly. The cover states “Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, And Join the New Rich.” Sounds pretty good to me! That’s basically what I’ve been doing for the past 2.5 years. I haven’t heard of too many other people taking their business on the road, so I thought the book would be a good read. It certainly was.

Tim runs the company BrainQUICKEN LLC . After checking out his site, I saw that he basically sells a supplement called the “neural accelerator.” In the book, he talks a lot about his company and how he’s managed to automate the business through using virtual assistants (”VA’s”) and the 80/20 principle.

Basically, he walks the reader through creating what he calls a “muse” — or a business that can “provide the time and financial freedom to realize your dream in record time.” In short, the business can be anything that you are passionate about. He suggests manufacturing a product, although I would suggest affiliate marketing as a much better opportunity.

Tim’s to-the-point writing approach makes it an easy and informative read. He tells you what has worked for him, and provides some words of wisdom along the way. He also dedicates an entire chapter to what you should do after you’ve created your business and are relaxing on the beaches of Thailand. He doesn’t advocate laziness, but says the time and financial freedom can be used to pursue your life long goals.

Here are a few of Tim’s accomplishments:

- No-holds-barred cage fighter
- First American in history to hold a Guinness world record in tango
- Princeton University guest lecturer in entrepreneurship
- National Chinese kickboxing champion
- MTV break-dancer in Taiwan

I suggest you check out Tim’s blog and the 4 hour-week message board.

I suggest learning about Affiliate marketing as a first step in creating your own Muse. If you haven’t done so already, read my introduction, then learn about affiliate marketing, making money with a website, and making money selling ebooks.

Those links should give you a good start to creating your own “muse” and moving forward with an automated business.
